Nail technicians, or manicurists, provide cosmetic care for the feet and hands of clients. If you currently work as a nail technician and plan to move across state lines, you must get a professional license in your new state. The process for getting the license varies, but often involves an examination of your current credentials and may also require you to complete a written exam. To avoid breaking licensing laws, get your new license before looking for work.
Reciprocity
Each state issues its own nail technician license; you can't use your current license in a different state. Instead, you must apply for a license through the state where you plan to live. States generally have reciprocity policies for evaluating your current credentials so that you don't have to go back to school or complete all of the requirements necessary for a new license. Reciprocity standards vary, however, so research the state's rules. This information is usually available on the cosmetology board's website, or also call the commission or licensing agency.
Now he has disputed the charge with his credit card company, though he may face an uphill battle: he did agree to the charge in writing. Etihad group of companies scam. He did, and the passenger failed to notice that the email was coming from [email protected] despite UA logos and the appearance of an official email.Of course when he called back to actually re-schedule his trip there was no record of the change fee he paid and he had to pay it again. Sound Familiar? If this story sounds familiar, it is because I wrote about a similar experience with “British Airways” last year.
Requirements
The cosmetology board in your new state may want to see that your education and training is comparable to the education and training requirements that it sets for its own licensing candidates. If there is a significant gap in the training standards for the two states, you may have to show evidence that you have experience working as a nail technician before you can get your new license. You may also have to pass a written exam, regardless of your work experience or education.
Obtaining Credentials
You must submit work or licensing credentials -- such as a certified copy of your current license, education transcripts or a letter from a former employer -- to the licensing board when applying for a new license. In some states, you are required to ask third parties, such as a state commission or employers, to send documentation directly to your new licensing board. Your new state commission may agree to contact your old licensing board to verify your licensure. Make sure that you submit the correct application when applying for your license. Some states may have one form for all applications, but others may have a special reciprocity application.
Additional Requirements
If your state requires you to pass an examination, check to see how you register to take the exam. In some cases, you'll be able to schedule your exam after the board begins processing your application. You may also have to take additional courses, such as a sanitation class, before the board issues a new license.
Warning
As of 2012, every state except Connecticut licenses nail technicians. Until you have a license in your new state, don't provide manicure or pedicure services, or try to get a job in a nail shop or salon until you have your license. Working without a license can result in a fine.
